According to a statement released by a spokesperson for the actor on Tuesday,
Kevin Costner and his wife of nearly 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, have decided to divorce.
"It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in the result of Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage,
" Costner's spokesperson Arnold Robinson said in a statement. "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired."
After starting a relationship in 1998, Costner and Baumgartner, who was a model and handbag designer, got married in 2004 at Costner's Colorado ranch. Baumgartner was the bride.
They have a daughter who is 12 years old, in addition to two sons who are 14 and 15 years old.
It was Kevin Costner's second marriage; he is a winner of both an Oscar and an Emmy. Costner is known for his roles in films such as "Dances With Wolves," "The Bodyguard," and "Bull Durham." He is currently 68 years old.
In addition, Costner is a father to four grown children from a prior marriage and three other partnerships.
