A new University of Arizona Cancer Center study piloted a unique outreach strategy to demystify basic science

research and facilitate culturally tailored approaches to vulnerable community health disparities.

The publication in Cancer Causes and Control examines the creation of the Research Outreach for Southern Arizona (ROSA) initiative.

Basic scientific research is vital for understanding biological pathways that enhance cancer prevention

diagnosis, and therapy. However, most of this research is conducted without community observation or input

techniques to collaborate between fundamental scientists and Cancer Center Hispanic community members.

ROSA was developed by Cancer Biology Program and Office of Community Outreach and Engagement researchers.
